run = "web.src" F:\WWW\ISV\DOC\ [ eol ] from iSv - GHz "Eol" is short for "end of line," a phrase immortalized by Master Control in TRON and something with which I wish I ended every phone call and personal email. The beginning of the piece opens with a tinny, synth-sounding line, but it's actually just a manipulated sample of an acoustic guitar. It always reminds me of Kirby's Dream Land on the Gameboy, the first one. As the sleepy beats and rhodes-y piano come in, the whole thing seems to be a grand, twilight goodbye amidst a southwestern landscape. All sorts of tinkling mobile-like sounds are going in the background, and even Pac Man stops by to say hello. By the echoing, psychedelic end, one hopefully gets the impression of falling into a gentle 8-bit slumber... or waking up from one. All is not well, however, as evidenced by the shrieking Charlton Heston damning something or someone... the listener? The chaos bordering on madness within the song? Could be. Frantic, flanged beats rush in, then exit as abruptly as they arrived. The song slows, ends... and then MC reminds us that this is indeed the end of the album proper. TRON is one of my all-time favorite movies. Ever. [ back to GHz ] [ back to EAR ] |
